The Ateneo Veneto Magazine

First known as “Esercitazioni” and later as “Ateneo Veneto”, the magazine was printed and published after the establishment of the Ateneo in 1813. It has created a memory and historical legacy of the institute’s origins, without any interruptions during the last two centuries.

With a varying recurrence (annually, semi-annually, quarterly, now once again bi-annual) the magazine has been published for almost 200 years, divided into three different series. The “Ateneo Veneto” magazine is considered a “historic magazine” of our country, as acknowledged by the Italian Ministry of Culture within a selected list of publications.

Today's magazine

In recent years, under the direction by Marino Zorzi, by Michele Gottardi, to the current one by Gianmario Guidarelli, the magazine has been refreshed in its graphic layout and composition. Every year, two volumes are published – the first one of the year is issued in December and is monographic – usually dedicated to the further insights of conference proceedings or a specific topic – the second is issued in July of the following year and has a variety of information including the annual activity report of the Ateneo. In 2013, the magazine aligned itself to the Anvur criteria, adopting the code of ethics in accordance with COPE which monitors the regularity of publications, and also foresees an editorial board and scientific committee entrusted with carrying out peer review. The magazine is listed in group A for some fields such as architecture and civil engineering and is also considered a scientific magazine for all the other fields, not only the humanities.

The next step will be to produce an online version. A number of printed copies for libraries and for requests will be maintained, as these copies are necessary for open source connections and digital data banks and makes the Magazine easily available and readable from every access point. Today, the magazine is distributed on a regular basis to approximately 250 national libraries (universities and other institutional archives and academies); 300 municipal and 65 foreign libraries including the most important international libraries. This way the Magazine’s legacy and its widespread circulation is visible in the national and international scenario.
